In September 2019, Aelion crossed the threshold of the former NATO base in Bagnoli, transforming it into the setting for an open-air nightmare. For the Naples Horror Festival, we designed two installations to heighten the sense of disorientation and terror. Leveraging the location’s industrial and decaying aesthetic, we created a journey where military history merges with supernatural horror.
Tunnel Zombie
A high-octane experience where video mapping technology simulated the extension of the NATO base’s tunnel, reshaping the surrounding environment in 3D. Inspired by the atmosphere of Resident Evil, we used synchronized sound and visual direction to announce the invasion: at the piercing sound of a siren, the architecture changed before the eyes of visitors, revealing the advance of zombie soldiers imprisoned in the base.
Lost Souls
The installation, projected onto two walls, transformed the space into an isolation chamber: a room in which thousands of lost souls were trapped. Using anamorphosis and 3D mapping techniques, we rendered the architectural material flexible and suffering: the walls seemed to bend and distort under the pressure of human bodies, creating a claustrophobic gathering of damned prisoners of concrete.
The visual impact was amplified by a meticulously designed quadraphonic sound system to generate a hellish and oppressive ambience that transported the viewer into the imagination of infinite damnation.
